Many resorts claim to be unique; Heavenly truly is for a range of reasons.
Where else in the world can you ski during the day, take a moonlight dinner cruise on a lake in the evening and then visit a casino to finish the day?
A skiing holiday in Heavenly on Lake Tahoe provides all of these possibilities and many more in addition.
The lake, the town – South Lake Tahoe – and the ski area are all bisected by the Nevada/California state line. This is at its most obvious in the town where at State Line Boulevard you walk from one state to another. In most other States in the USA, you would not really be aware. Here, the difference is quite obvious for as you walk from California into Nevada there are four very large casino hotels which are open 24/7.
On the mountain, you can ski from State to State and there are signs welcoming you to Nevada or California – depending upon the direction in which you are travelling. Here’s a tip – ski Nevada in the morning and California in the afternoon to get the best of the sun and the skiing conditions.
The views are truly spectacular. At Heavenly you are on the south shore of the lake. Although it’s 22 miles away, in the pure mountain air you can see quite clearly across to the north shore where Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley are located. One of the most amazing views has to be at a point on the mountain where to the left you can see the snow capped peaks around the lake and to the right you can take in the dusty plains of Nevada. This is definitely one skiing trip where carrying your camera is an absolute must.
