Expert Opinion

"Being located on the East Coast of Canada, Québec is a popular ski holiday option for families due to the shorter flight. There are 40 ski resorts in the Québec area but only a handful that are large enough for international guests. The mountains may be smaller than out west but there is still some great skiing to be had."

Our expert Rupert Hatfield

Located on the East Coast of Canada - Québec is a province and home of the Québécois nation in the central part of Canada. It is the only Canadian province with a predominantly French-speaking population and where French is the only official language. However, there is a significant English-speaking minority and English is widely spoken, especially in Montreal.

Québec is Canada's largest province by area and is the second most populated province, behind Ontario, and most of its inhabitants live along or close to the banks of the Saint Lawrence. The area is steeped in history, culture, amazing scenery and natural resources.

Québec's Ski Resorts

More than 90% of Québec's area lies within the Canadian Shield -  a rough, rocky terrain sculpted and scraped clean of soil by successive ice ages. The southern portion of the shield extends to the Laurentians, a mountain range just north of Montreal and Quebec City and it is within this area that the 40 ski resorts are found.  The ski resorts are a very popular pull for the area and have a big local following.  Please click on the resort names below to link to full resort details.

The best know ski resort in Québec is Mont Tremblant - it is an Intrawest Resort and offers a high standard of accommodation combined with a convenient ski in ski out village.

The other popular ski resorts are Stoneham, Mont St Anne and Le Massif (this resort is undergoing a massive redevelopment program by its present owner Daniel Gauthier, the founder of Cirque du Soleil). The ski resorts are an easy drive from Québec City, so you can base yourself in the city and ski a different resort on a daily basis. Mont St Anne, at present, is the largest ski area and Stoneham the closest to the city and has extensive night skiing.
