Located almost a day's journey (4 hours by train, then an hour or so by car) from Santiago, Termas de Chillan has an altogether different flavour from Portillo and Valle Nevado. That flavour has a sulphurous tinge to it as Termas de Chillan is situated on the side of a volcano. Steam spouts from the ground in a number of places and the lower slopes are clad in deciduous woodland.
Skiing here feels very different for those used to Europe and North America - and it is well worth the trip. The handful of buildings that make up the resort are scattered amongst the trees which create a very attractive setting.
As well as skiers, Termas de Chillan draws those seeking the benefits of the natural hot water and the array of treatments available at the Gran Hotel's Spa. These include hydrotherapy, aromatherapy, reiki and sofrological meditation!
